NHS hospital eye departments

Our optometrists hold additional specialist qualifications and are registered on the GOC specialist register — the same standard required to work in an NHS hospital eye department. Many hold sessional appointments at hospital eye departments including Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where they work alongside consultant ophthalmologists in glaucoma, medical retina, and corneal clinics.

This matters to you because it means the clinician examining your eyes has seen the conditions that standard optometry can miss — and has the knowledge, the experience, and the technology to find them. It means your results are interpreted in exactly the same way as they would be in a hospital eye department. Without the referral. Without the waiting list.

Spectacle dispensing is a technical art requiring years of training, precision measuring equipment and a thorough understanding of optics, anatomy and aesthetics. At Eye Academy, all dispensing is handled exclusively by highly qualified, experienced staff.

Unlike many high-street chains where retail assistants with minimal training dispense glasses, our team uses up-to-date, accurate dispensing tools and advanced pupillometry to ensure every pair of glasses performs exactly as intended — and looks extraordinary on your face.

As independents, we can order any lens available — we are not limited to a fixed corporate range. We specialise in custom-made lenses: single-vision, occupational and varifocals, all dispensed based on your frame choice, your lifestyle, your prescription, and a full set of measurements taken by our qualified dispensing staff.
